Our Story

City of Glasgow Gymnastics Club (CoGGC) was established in 1985 and its first home was in the Palace of Art in Bellahouston Park.

In 1998 Marius Gherman moved from Romania to take up the role of CoGGC Men’s Artistic Lead Coach.

In May 2001 the club moved into its current premises thanks to support from Glasgow Life and Sport Scotland.

In 2012 Glasgow Life appointed Rod Smith as Head Performance Gymnastics Coach to lead the CoGGC gymnastics programme and coach its WA performance squad.

The club was originally set up as an elite performance programme working in partnership with Glasgow Life’s recreation scheme. Since 2024 CoGGC has been expanding its own recreational programme allowing gymnasts to start their gymnastics journey with us from the very beginning.

CoGGC is one of the leading gymnastic clubs in Scotland and its gymnasts have achieved remarkable success on the national and international stage. Numerous CoGGC gymnasts have represented Scotland at major events including the Commonwealth Games and Special Olympics.

Organisationally, CoGGC transitioned to a Ltd Company in 2018. The club now operates as a charitable company, overseen by a Board of Directors and a Head Coach who is responsible for the day to day running of the club.

Under the guidance of Angela Turner CoGGC has developed an incredibly strong disability section. Six of our para gymnasts were invited to participate in a trial event at the 2026 British Championships in Liverpool.
